It's raining, and probably will rain all day. Then, after it finishes raining, we're going to have a frost.
What this means is that in the world of gardening in Austin, no one wants to shop for plants. The only people going to garden stores are the people who managed to go all winter without buying frost cloth row cover, but suddenly think they need some, right now. That is to say, it was dead slow at work today. My boss looked around at the six cashiers on staff today, trying to decide who to send home early, saw that one of them (me) was sniffling from allergies, and thus I was chosen.
Rock on! I can cuddle in a chair and read, I can work on the scarf I'm knitting, I can clean the house for houseguests, I can . . . . not get paid for the five hours I'm not going to work. Shoot. Now I understand that expression, "Save it for a Rainy Day." Because in an agrarian society, rainy days are days that no one harvests food, earns money, or gets anything done except indoor chores.
